Die bewegte Leere des Moments, 2015/ 2018 [The Moving Emptiness of the Moment]
In the middle of the first exhibition hall for ABC Contemporary was the König Galerie, showing in the layout of the space their place on the throne. Their sectional white walls created an open square with two leather sofas back to back facing opposite walls. While most gallery reps and artists sit on tiny stools or crates usually bent over a MacBook, these full length sofas were an art fair luxury. I don’t know when the gradual ascendance occurred but it was sealed this year during Berlin Gallery Weekend with their epic Katherina Grosse show.
Making my way to the center of the space on the opening night, I felt like a J. Crew wearing peasant from the Districts (being charged extra for not being VIP… un-Berlin), reaching the Capitol to see art made with rare black feathers. The feathers effectively conjured notions of sophistication and luxury in the most subtle way but you had to get close to see the perfect execution of the piece by local artist Jorinde Voigt.
