H-Farm

July 7, 2014 (iPhone 5s)

I have a friend on the conference circuit. She gets invited by the Canadian Bar Association, Italian start-ups, law firms and law associations across America and beyond to sprinkle some of her creative fairy dust to a profession wanting to appeal to their new overlords, the start-up entrepreneurs. She was giving some workshops on design and law to a group of law students participating in a program at an H-Farm start-up. The law students were being used as free consultants for huge Italian brands to help them appeal to millennials. It felt like a version of law students who are consultants, who think MBA students are like law students, who want to do entrepreneurs like they’re brands, all to get a job that they really like. I had no idea what this program was called and when one of the students introduced himself as a “We have the Future” member, I simply thought his optimism sprang from his youth. I spent an afternoon with my friend at this H-Farm incubator.

In the mist of seed funding, workshops, visiting MBA professors, Islamic law, and finding a ride to the airport, I looked out the window and saw a pastoral scene reminding me of a 16th century Dutch painting.
